I genuinely love what I do. I’m blessed to travel the country to give presentations on leadership, on business management and on how taking risks can help you achieve your goals and dreams. I enjoy helping people… serving people.

In my life, there have always been four indisputable passions:

Family
God
Country
Job

Last week I was training a new Association Financial Partner (AFP). We decided to go into a McDonalds to get a soda and sit for a few minutes between appointments. After paying for the two Diet Cokes, I reached into my pocket and gave the young girl behind the counter one of my lollypops and wished her a “sweet day”. Similar to what usually happens when I do this for someone, she got a big smile and said “thanks.”

In my book, Risk: A Road Worth Traveling, I define leadership as a verb, simply to mean: taking action.

A true leader– someone who takes action not only in business, but also in his or her personal life, in the community, and in the world – makes things happen. A true practitioner of leadership leads by example, by doing, by getting his or her hands dirty. A leader is someone who is willing to make mistakes and profit by those mistakes, a person who is willing to jump into the fray and come out of it a little bloodied if necessary. That is leadership.

"Dude, you're no good."

So many of us hear that voice coming from our own conscious mind, telling us we aren't good enough. We may not hear those exact words, but the speaker of such negative self-talk usually isn't shy about reminding us we aren't smart enough, skilled enough, tough enough or determined enough to accomplish some worthwhile goal. I call this negative voice the Voice of Treason.

Julie AdamenGot the opportunity to attend a seminar taught by Julie Adamen a few days ago. Julie is one of the best speakers in the Community Association industry. www.adamen-inc.com. The title of her seminar was “The 20% Solution”. Julie talked about how 20% of our output – time, expertise produces 80% of the results and that 80% or our efforts are spent on relatively unimportant tasks.
